Kia Soul 2024: What’s New?

The Kia Soul first appeared in the US in 2010 as a small and boxy SUV reminiscent of the discontinued Toyota/Scion xB.
The second-generation Soul arrived in 2014 and featured a new platform with a longer wheelbase and wider stance. However, the third-generation Soul, introduced by Kia in 2020, had a significant redesign, reminiscent of parent company Hyundai’s “robotized” design idiom, as seen in the new Sonata.
For 2024, the Kia Soul remains largely unchanged from the 2023 facelift, except for a new EX Design Package featuring cloth/imitation leather upholstery, custom 18-inch alloy wheels, and a unique interior color package. Meanwhile, variants with a smart key now have a sleep mode that activates 40 seconds after locking the car, helping to deter hackers (remember The Infamous Kia Boys?) from doubling the key’s frequency.
Powertrain & Fuel Economy
We’d be lying if we said we didn’t miss the Soul’s powerful turbo engine (Kia discontinued the turbo after the 2022 model). However, the third-generation Soul’s standard (and only) engine, a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder, delivers 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, achieving EPA estimates of 27 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.
The 2024 Kia Soul comes with front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). All-wheel drive is not available. If you need an AWD Kia, the next best options are the Hyundai Kona or Kia Seltos.
